How do I achieve my goals? It’s a question everyone asks themselves, but one that few people take the time to truly answer.
Recently, I achieved a major goal of mine. After endless hours of studying, I passed my real estate exam! And I genuinely believe that one thing made all the difference: positivity. Instead of dwelling on the negative and allowing fear and self-doubt to creep in, I focused on positive thinking. This helped me minimize stress, maintain healthy relationships, and prioritize my mental and physical health during times of growth.
So to help you achieve your goals and live the life of your dreams, I’m offering up a few tips on how to successfully achieve goals while minimizing stress and self-doubt.
These five tips have always helped me to successfully achieve goals. In fact, they just helped me ace my real estate exam!
Establish a Positive Support System
It’s crucial to create a support system that’s rooted in positivity. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and push you to succeed. When times get tough, lean on your close friends and family members. That’s what they’re there for after all!
But with that being said, it’s important to establish clear boundaries. It’s totally okay to skip Girl’s Night Out if you need to stay in and study. The people you love should be understanding of the sacrifices you need to make in order to achieve your dreams— especially if you’ve communicated where your priorities lie.
Surround Yourself with Inspirational Quotes
I’m a huge fan of positive quotes. When I’m pushing myself towards a goal, I like to surround myself with inspirational quotes and motivational sayings that help me stay focused. Here are a few ways I incorporate them into my everyday life:
- Try following a few positive IG accounts. It’s always nice to see a positive quote pop up on your feed amongst the sea of influencer endorsements, engagement announcements, and celebrity gossip. Be sure to screenshot or save them so you can re-read them on days when you need an extra dose of positivity.
- Set a positive quote as your phone and computer background. You’ll feel motivated every time you unlock your phone to read a text or check your email.
- Post them around the house. I love to jot down motivational sayings and hang them on my fridge, bathroom mirror, and other places I’ll see them every day.
Make a Mantra
Do you know how at the start of yoga class, the yoga teacher always tells you a mantra to repeat to yourself throughout your practice? It’s time to start treating life just like that yoga class!
Make a mantra that motivates you to achieve your goals. Keep the phrase short and sweet, so it’s easy to remember. It can truly be anything you want, but here are a few ideas to get you started:
- I can. And I will.
- I am strong. I am capable. I am powerful.
- My intentions create my reality.
- Success is achieved one step at a time.
Repeat this mantra throughout the day, especially when you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or off-track. Say it out loud to yourself first thing in the morning and right before you go to bed, taking a deep breath between each repetition. I like to focus on it during my workouts and mid-day meditation sessions too.
Prioritize Your Health
It’s far too easy to overlook our health and well-being when we’re busy focusing our efforts on achieving our goals. I cannot stress how important it is to prioritize your physical and mental health. Maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and sneak in a few minutes of self-care now and then. Feeling good helps you perform at your best.
Instead of overwhelming your life with a bunch of new health and fitness, start with just one thing. I recently cut back (like waaaay back) on how much I’m drinking. While I’ll still enjoy the occasional cocktail with the girls, I no longer reach for a glass of wine to help me de-stress after a long night of studying. I cannot begin to tell you the mental clarity I have gained and how good I feel.
Educate Yourself on the Power of Positive Thinking
Instead of scrolling through social media while you’re laying in bed at night, read a book about positivity. A personal favorite of mine is The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale. One of my favorite quotes from the book is “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” I say this quote to myself at least once a day, whether that be before I do that last set of squats at the gym or when I’m feeling insecure.
Believe in Yourself
As cheesy as it sounds, there’s nothing more important than believing in yourself! If you truly believe that you can achieve goals you’ve set yourself, then nothing can stop you. Instead of comparing your success to others, treat yourself like your biggest competition.
Someone once told me this piece of advice and I’ll never forget it: what will differentiate yourself from others is when you want to give up. It’s during these difficult moments that most people give up on themselves. But not you! You keep on going. And that is what sets you apart from the rest.
