In my opinion, the best-dressed award show nominees are the ones that look equally as stylish on and off the screen. There’s something magical about seeing actors and actresses transform from characters on my TV to Hollywood stars on the red carpet. Between their acting skills and their stylish red carpet looks, these fashionable actors and actresses stand out both on the small screen and IRL for all the right reasons.
Below, I’ve rounded up my picks for the best-dressed Emmy nominees at the upcoming 2021 Emmy Awards Show. Be sure to follow my YouTube channel and watch my upcoming segment on Great Day Washington airing Monday 9/20/2021 to hear my full review of this year’s Emmys red carpet looks.
Below, I’m handing out awards for the best-dressed Emmy nominees of 2021.
Regé-Jean Page in Bridgerton
Netflix’s Bridgerton was undoubtedly one of the most binge-worthy shows of the past year. Regé-Jean Page as The Duke of Hastings? So fine! And those sex scenes with Phoebe Dynevor? Steamy! From the drool-worthy ballgowns to the woke casting, Bridgerton certainly lived up to the hype. The show is nominated for the Best Period Costumes and Best Drama Series.
Though Regé-Jean Page won’t be returning for season 2 of Bridgerton, he still earned a nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series at this year’s Emmy Awards. He looks every bit as charming and dapper off-screen in well-tailored suits as he does in top hats and breeches as The Duke of Hastings. And rumor has it he’s still a front-runner to be the next James Bond.
Lily Collins in Emily in Paris
Watching Emily in Paris makes me feel like a teenager again. As the title suggests, the Netflix hit follows a fashion-loving American girl who moves to Paris to work in a fashionable office, eat croissants, and kiss cute Parisian men. Sounds like every fashion-loving teen’s dream, right? The show’s lead actress, Lily Collins, is undoubtedly one of the best-dressed Emmy Nominees. Her outfits on-screen as Emily and off-screen on the red carpet are equally as eye-catching and adventurous.
At the 2021 Emmy Awards, Emily in Paris earned nominations for Best Comedy Series and Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Program. I’m not sure who I’m most excited to see on the Emmys carpet: Lily Collins or her fashionable co-stars Ashley Park and Camille Razat.
Anya Taylor Joy in The Queen’s Gambit
The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor Joy is quickly becoming one of the best-dressed celebrities on the red carpet. She could pull off anything and she knows it! If her awards show outfits thus far have taught us anything, it’s that Anya isn’t afraid to take risks and stand out. Her stylist Law Roach is also responsible for drool-worthy red carpet looks seen on Zendaya, Ariana Grande, Celine Dion, Kerry Washington, and more.
Anya’s on-screen looks as Beth Harmon have received just as much praise. Beth’s mod shift dresses and fiery red bob—courtesy of costume designer Gabriele Binder— helped earn The Queen’s Gambit nominations for Best Limited Series, Best Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, and Best Period Costumes. The Netflix limited series is also nominated for a whole host of other Emmy awards including, Outstanding Period And/Or Character Makeup, Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, and Outstanding Cinematography For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie.
Elisabeth Moss in The Handmaid’s Tale
As a fan of The Handmaid’s Tale, I always look forward to seeing Elisabeth Moss on the red carpet. I’m always stunned to see her transform from a runaway handmaid into a Hollywood star. On-screen as June Osborne, she isn’t afraid to look less than red carpet ready in her red cloak or tattered clothes. At awards shows, she always looks timeless and effortlessly chic. I can’t wait to see what she wears to the 2021 Emmys, where she’s nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
The Handmaid’s Tale earned a whooping 21 nominations at this year’s Emmy Awards, including Best Drama Series, Outstanding Costumes in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series, Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series. Needless to say, the Hulu series is a must-watch!
RuPaul in RuPaul’s Drag Race
Nothing soothes my soul on a night in like a few boxes of takeout and a RuPaul’s Drag Race marathon. I’m always amazed to see the drag competition’s host RuPaul and its contestants transform from regularly dressed dudes to gorgeous drag queens each episode. On the red carpet, Ru’s brightly-colored and printed suits always stand out from the sea of boring tuxedos.
In addition to Best Competition Program, RuPaul and his hit reality show are nominated for a host of other Emmy awards including, Outstanding Contemporary Hairstyling For A Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program, Outstanding Contemporary Makeup For A Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Host For A Reality Or Competition Program.
Britney Spears in Framing Britney Spears
My Honorable Mention for the Best-Dressed Emmy Nominee of 2021 is Britney Spears. It goes without saying that the pop star is one of the biggest fashion icons of our generation. From her coordinating denim dress at the 2001 American Music Awards to her schoolgirl look in the Hit Me Baby One More Time music video, Britney is responsible for some of the most iconic fashion moments of the past twenty years.
While Britney herself will not be making a red carpet appearance at the 2021 Emmy Awards, the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears rightfully received nominations for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Picture Editing For A Nonfiction Program.
